SleepWalks, 'a catnap' -- will be performed at Littlefield Concert Hall, March 12th, 4pm

Andrea Williams and Lee Pembleton cull sounds from their audio files of field recordings, live samples of the room resonance, and various electronically processed acoustic instruments, to create an extended musical composition for an audience who are encouraged to sleep in the performance space.  This will be a 45-minute 'Catnap' version of their project, SleepWalks, an overnight, live electronic music performance exploring the impact of sound on dreams by playing to a sleeping audience who then journal about their experience in the morning. The goal of this long-term project is to compose engaging soundwalks for dreamers; to compose soundwalk experiences in participants' dreams.   Sleepwalks has been performed at numerous venues including Issue Project Room, NYC; Diapason Gallery, NYC; and Mills College, Oakland, CA as part of The Deep Listening Institute's Dream Festival.

SleepWalks performance at NOMA Gallery, San Francisco, March 11th

Time: Friday, March 11 at 10:00pm - March 12 at 8:00am
Location: N O M A Gallery, 80 Maiden Lane (@Grant) San Francisco, CA

An overnight, live electronic music performance exploring the impact of sound on dreams by playing to a sleeping audience who then journal about their experience in the morning. The goal of this long-term project is to compose engaging soundwalks for dreamers; to compose soundwalk experiences in participants' dreams. Lee Pembleton and Andrea Williams have performed Sleepwalks at numerous venues including Issue Project Room, NYC; Diapason Gallery, NYC; and Mills College, Oakland, CA as part of The Deep Listening Institute's Dream Festival.

Listening samples can be found at: http://www.vime.org/ensembles/sleep.html

Pembleton and Williams cull sounds from their audio files of field recordings, live samples of the room resonance, and various electronically processed acoustic instruments, to create an extended musical composition for the entirety of a night for an audience that sleeps in the performance space.

An opening reception takes place at 10pm on the night of the event. The performance begins at approximately 11:00pm and lights dim until lights go out at midnight. Coffee and tea is then served in the morning at 8am as the participants wake up and journal about their dreams and experiences.

Using Ableton Live audio software on their laptops, Pembleton and Williams record the sound samples they use during the performance. Later by reading the timestamp, they make possible correlations between the sounds in the composition and writings from the participants' dream journals.

If you are interested in participating please send an email to lee@earthboundmoon.com. Space is very limited, so contact us asap. From 10pm-11pm there will be an opening for Sleepwalks with wine and cheese. Please arrive before 11pm, as that is when doors will close. We will be providing water; there is a restroom with a sink; and there will be muffins served in the morning at 8am. Please bring your own bedding and toiletries, eyemasks, etc.
